5 - PAST SIMPLE vs. PAST CONTINUOUS

Past Simple – an action that happened in the past ( specified)
Past Continuous – an action that was happening in the past when another action happened

I was having breakfast this morning when I got a phone call from the headmistress.

For example: 
I never liked computer games as a child. When I was at school I hated (hate) computer lessons. Then one afternoon as I was sitting (sit) in a café, reading a magazine I saw (see) a review for a computer game called Sims. I started (start) to read the article and I thought (think) it seemed really interesting so I decided (decide) to try it. I went (go) straight to a computer shop to buy the game. The computer store was (be) really crowded, there were a lot of people walking around and loud music was playing (play) in the background and I didn’t know (not know) where to look. A shop assistant was tidying (tidy) some shelves at the front of the shop so I asked (ask) her to help me. She was (be) really nice and very good-looking. Unfortunately she didn’t  find (not find) the game – it’s an American game. I asked (ask) the shop assistant on a date and we’ve been together ever since. I never got into (get into) the virtual world.
